This is a topic about which some controversy exists. Different people give
different answers from “It's not necessary to ever bath your dog” to “Bath your
dog every few days” So what is the correct answer? In deciding how often to bath your dog I think you need to apply a little
common sense.
In cold and temperate climates try to bath your dog as little as possible. In
tropical climates, especially if there are parasites around, more regular
bathing may be necessary.
Also different dogs need to be bathed at different intervals. Perhaps your dog
enjoys rolling around all over the place accumulating obnoxious smells. On the
other hand you may have a “real lady” who distains dirt as much as you do.
One thing is certain, there is no need to bath a clean dog. Only bath your dog
when he is dirty. In most circumstances I have found that I normally bath my
dogs about once a month. However they are groomed (brushed) on a regular basis.
Regular grooming definitely helps keep a dog clean and is an important part of
a dog's care.
Bathing your dog does remove natural oils from his skin and coat. This oil is
normally easily replaced, however bathing your dog too often can lead to a dry
skin and a lack lustre coat.
Never bath a puppy younger than two months. Be particularly careful when
bathing a puppy always ensure that you dry him well and keep him out of
draughts. For instructions on how to bath your dog CLICK HERE
