Often you will find that on arriving home your dog will urinate when he first
sees you. This may take place outdoors or indoors depending where your dog is
at the time. When your dog urinates indoors it is obviously not pleasant and can often
result in the owner showing anger, scolding the dog or even hitting him.
This is completely the wrong reaction as the problem stems from the dog being
overly submissive which will simply be aggravated by any further threat.
Besides which hitting a dog is just not in my book and I hope it is not in
yours either.
A solution to this problem is to raise the dog's ranking a bit. Play games with
him especially boisterous ones. Do not dominate your dog in these games, play
as equals. Tug of war games can be particularly helpful. Get an old towel or
other acceptable item and play tug of war, allowing your dog to win.
If the problem is particularly bad and occurs indoors, then try this. When you
arrive home, open the door, but immediately turn your back and walk outdoors,
at the same time call your dog. You are then showing your dog a rear view which
is non-threatening. When your dog comes, at this stage don't stroke him, but
ask him to sit, or perform some other command which you know he can handle. On
successful execution by your dog give a reward.
If your dog does not have any basic obedience, then simply give a reward when
he follows you outside to greet you. Now is certainly not the time to ask him
to perform a command which he may not carry out, as this will only instil more
stress into the situation.
I recommend a great ebook dealing with dog behavioural problems which also provides a very effective dog training method. For more information, Please Click Here!
