Having your dog or newly acquired puppy vaccinated.

Vaccinations or inoculation programs may vary slightly depending on the part of the world in which you live and according to local canine diseases, to which your dog may be at risk.

When taking your puppy home from the breeder ensure that you know exactly what vaccinations your dog has had. The breeders that I know would give new owners a vet inoculation card or vaccination certificate detailing which diseases your puppy has been vaccinated against, sometimes together with a schedule for future inoculations.

Call in at your local vet to discuss a vaccination program with him; he will be the best person to advise you on conditions that exist within your area.

A possible likely schedule that he will suggest may be something like this, but remember local conditions may vary.

At about 8 weeks: First vaccinations for distemper (includes hard pad ), leptospirosis , canine hepatitis , parvovirus and kennel cough ( Parainfluenza plus others)

At about 12 weeks: Second vaccinations for the above, as well as rabies

Annually: Booster vaccines for the above.

Please remember the above is only a guide, it's important to ask your vet for advice regarding vaccinations for specific dog related diseases in your area.
